InnovatED313 Chair and CEO

Dr. June Teisan is a National Board-certified teacher and career STEAM educator—science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. Dr. Teisan served as 2008 Michigan Teacher of the Year and was a finalist for 2008 National Teacher of the Year.

Invited to serve as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow in Washington, D.C., at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, she also received the White House Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the Middle School STEM Educator award from the National Science Teaching Association and is a National Teacher Hall of Fame Inductee. Dr. Teisan is the founder, CEO and board chair of InnovatED313. She serves on the leadership team of the Michigan Teacher of the Year Network, the Michigan Science Teacher Association and with the National Association of Research in Science Teaching.

Bringing science to life for K-12 students on Detroit’s northeast border for 27 years, Dr. Teisan led students in project- and place-based learning, art-infused lessons and community impact endeavors such as International Beach Clean Up, tree planting across the city, outdoor enrichment days with middle schoolers teaching and mentoring area second-graders as well as student-directed water quality stewardship research. Now, she supports classroom teachers in developing and implementing the same community action projects with their students to enliven learning.

Dr. Teisan is actively involved in education policy and advocacy efforts at the state and national levels. She is passionately committed to widening opportunities for under-represented and under-resourced students in the STEAM fields and to supporting urban and early-career educators with rich, innovative professional learning opportunities and mentoring.
